Why Is The Prog. Unique

The Express Institute of Media Studies (EXIMS) takes the classroom into the newsroom and the newsroom into the classroom. Students will spend eight months at Express Building, headquarters of The Indian Express in New Delhi, acquiring the skills they require to be the best in the business. Throughout the course, they will be in a live newsroom situation at The Indian Express and Financial Express, chasing stories, working under relentless deadline pressure as they learn how to produce a newspaper.

The EXIMS course offers students everything a good newspaper is and should be, reflecting the core values of The Indian Express: a comprehensive programme that imparts to students the skills they need to report for newspapers: self-discipline, accuracy, impartiality, clarity, and the courage to pursue and expose the truth.

EXIMS offers students the unique opportunity to interact with The Indian Express’s highly skilled team of professional journalists; to be taught by them and to work alongside journalists who have made The Indian Express, the newspaper everyone takes seriously. In addition, EXIMS will offer students interactions with an eminent panel of guest faculty, people who write and contribute to The Indian Express and are amongst the finest minds in their respective fields.

Core competence in the fields of investigative and political reporting will be a highlight of the course. EXIMS will also offer students of economic and business journalism and the opportunity to learn the trade from senior editors at Financial Express.

The EXIMS course is designed to teach students what they need to know: how to write, report, edit and produce a newspaper. With its lectures and seminars it will expose students to issue of governance, jurisprudence, social and economic concerns and the challenges facing the modern Indian state.

The EXIMS course will be exacting, demanding the highest levels of discipline and enterprise from students who aim to be on the front page of journalism.
